At the Coalition for Dialogue and Negotiations (CDN), we believe diplomacy and inclusive cooperation are essential to resolving Africa’s persistent conflicts and addressing the growing threat of violent extremism. Our multi-layered approach involves targeted diplomatic outreach, stakeholder capacity development, strategic engagement with non-state actors, and robust media advocacy. We seek to build the trust, knowledge, and structural preparedness necessary for sustained peace and post-conflict rebuilding across the continent through our dedicated work.
Engagements With International Partners and Stakeholders
CDN values the importance of neutrality and credibility in mediation efforts. We actively engage with diplomatic missions from countries with no colonial history or geopolitical interests in Africa—nations best positioned to serve as impartial mediators in regional conflicts. In addition, we partner with international stakeholders who are deeply committed to conflict resolution through peaceful dialogue, emphasizing transparency, equity, and the pursuit of justice. Our strategic alignment with these partners enhances global support for negotiated settlements across Africa, including the Southern Cameroons.
Engagement With African Partners and Stakeholders
CDN collaborates closely with African leaders, institutions, and non-state armed groups (NSAGs) to foster internal preparedness and inclusive engagement. We liaise with experienced African personalities and dialogue champions to strengthen efforts toward negotiation and post-conflict reconstruction. A key priority is establishing shared principles among fragmented groups, enabling them to present unified positions during peace processes.
We promote:
- Proactive Stakeholder Engagement Empowering NSAGs and civil society groups to take initiative in shaping and implementing negotiation frameworks.
- Collective Platforms for Dialogue Creating spaces for shared learning, trust-building, and consensus development on both negotiation and post-negotiation goals.
- Education and Capacity Building Enhancing NSAGs’ knowledge of justice-based approaches to conflict resolution and preparing them to engage constructively in talks.
- Community-Centered Expertise Leveraging the human capital within conflict-affected regions to inform policies and foster ownership of peacebuilding efforts.
- Humanitarian Coordination Negotiating safe access for emergency aid to reach affected populations, in collaboration with humanitarian agencies.
- Shared Learning Offering knowledge tools and strategic guidance to help stakeholders understand settlement options, define interests, assess risks, and improve mediation readiness.
- Common Ground Practices Encouraging parties to adopt a collaborative mindset that favors constructive dialogue and compromise.
Strengthening Systems for International Mediation
Recognizing the complex challenges in convening negotiating parties during ongoing conflict, CDN supports international mediation frameworks rooted in transparency, justice, and inclusion. We provide technical support, educational materials, and strategic insight to strengthen international efforts and build mediation readiness among local actors—particularly NSAGs.
Our goals include:
- Support for Mediators Collaborating with credible mediators to overcome political barriers and promote pathways to meaningful dialogue.
- Mediation Education Enhancing understanding of the core principles that define a credible mediation process.
- Government Accountability Encouraging the government of Cameroon to engage in inclusive, sincere dialogue with Southern Cameroons stakeholders. We believe lasting peace is only achievable through justice-centered negotiations involving all parties with a vested interest in the resolution.
Media Engagement (Local and International)
In a time when narratives shape perception and influence policy, CDN is committed to a robust and transparent media strategy that amplifies neglected voices and conflicts across Africa. Our media engagement goals are grounded in accessibility, truth, and representation.
Key media objectives include:
- Highlighting Neglected Conflicts Driving global awareness and media coverage of underreported crises.
- Visibility and Influence Ensuring CDN’s initiatives, analysis, and calls for peace appear in mainstream and social media coverage.
- Podcast Studio Development Establishing a platform for uncensored dialogue, allowing diverse voices to share insights and lived experiences on conflict.
- Expert-Led Blog Platform: Creating a space for scholarly and stakeholder contributions that inform public understanding and influence decision-making.
